Eugène Ionesco (1909-1994) was a Romanian-French playwright who is considered one of the founders of the Theatre of the Absurd. He was born in Slatina, Romania, and moved to France in 1938. Ionesco's plays are often characterized by their use of non-sequiturs, illogical dialogue, and bizarre characters. He was influenced by the existentialist philosophers Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus, as well as the surrealist poets André Breton and Guillaume Apollinaire.
