Joan Benoit Samuelson is an American distance runner who won the gold medal in the women's marathon at the 1984 Summer Olympics. She is also the first woman to win the Boston Marathon twice, in 1979 and 1983. Samuelson is a graduate of Bown College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is married to Scott Samuelson, a former world-class runner. Samuelson and her husband have two children.
